urban intervention

Project CODE:RED USA discuss various topics of urban minority of sex workers in NYC. It begins with research into the urban context of the city and conditions of life and work of sex workers in New York. PMCA establishes links between local organisations, artists, activists and protagonists. A special website featured a database and project documentation allows the general public direct access to the project.Public discussions created a basic platform for later group actions and interventions.
Through performance, public actions, interventions and various other media forms participants discussed different issues such as impact of globalisation and new technologies on sex work practices, control of the public body, parallel economies and marginal communities. This project was made possible, in part, by funds from the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art, supported by Jerome Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.
